This is what the law says you must do:
• From 1 October 2009, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) annual notification fee of £35 was increased to £500 for larger companies.
• From 1 April 2010, the ICO will be able to hand outfines for breaches of the eight data protection principles (which includes of course CCTV)

• On 15 December 2009, the Home office announced the appointment of the UK's First CCTV Regulator The CCTV industry is on the move and about to see major changes in its current workings. CameraWatch intends to represent its members and partners to assist, lobby and drive future policy.

The list of changes and daily challenges to the CCTV industry is growing. The penalties for failing to observe the DPA are just the same as for failing to protect any other form of data that you or your organisation are entrusted with.
